Bronica workshop
Environment, test shoots, visual practiceThese are some of the outcomes from the Bronica workshop. I really enjoyed learning and working with the Bronica because, I don’t usually work with film and I found it interesting to learn about another aspect of photography. During my time spent with the Bronica I learnt a number of skills such as; how to load film, how to work with a light meter, how to develop and scan in the negatives. I would defiantly consider working with film again especially using the Bronica. I am going to have a go at using the Bronica in my finally shoot for this unit, however I am going to shoot on digital also just in case something goes wrong with the film.
The Model
Environment, research, test shoots
This is the model I am going to use for my environment shoot. I have worked previously with Tamsin (the model). These are some examples of the outcome of a past project we have worked on together. Tamsin makes a good model because, she is very easy to talk to and has a good understanding of the persona I want for each shoot we do together. Tamsin has a very natural appearance so fits my requirements for the environment shoot I am planning to shoot for this project.

Environment, test shootsLocation shoot
Environment, research, test shootsI have been looking around for some good locations to conduct my photographic shoot. This is a location that I have come across near to where I live. This is a good location to shoot at because, it’s easily accessible, has good natural light and has more than one good place to shoot.
Responding to artist research

These images are in responded to the research piece I did on Sally Mann. I took inspiration from her by shooting close to home, these images where taken at my house and they are of my brother. Mann often photographs her family and very often uses her own house to create spaces to shoot in, I have done the same with these images. I am happy with the outcome of these images, I trued to capture the rawness and tone of Mann’s photographs. I took these on a Nikon D3200 but used photoshop to up the contrast and put them in black and white to really capture the essence of Sally Mann’s work.
Tierney Gearon artist research
Environment, researchTierney Gearon is predominantly a fashion photographer however her book ‘The Mother Project’ is one of my favourite photographic series. The book features a series of photographs documenting her mothers battle with Alzheimer’s. The raw and even controversial images, show the relationship between herself and her un-well mother. Gearson’s mother is photographed in different environments doing odd and immature things. Her Alzheimer’s has stripped Gearon’s mother of all maturity and turned her back into behaving like a child. My favourite image in this collection is Gearon’s mother, with a mask standing in a corn field scaring her son. This image is so important, it sums up her mothers condition. She has become a stranger and even a monster in the eyes of her family, she is simply unrecognisable. The scary mask is a metaphor for what the mother has become inside and out. I want to use Gearon’s work as inspiration for my own work in this environment unit, perhaps by photographing weird objects or people in mundane environments.

These are some landscapes I have taken in response to researching photographer Ansel Adams. I wanted to recreate Adam’s talent of making to make a otherwise beautiful scene, into a dramatic and eerie image . I have captured the essence of Ansel Adams in this pieces of work, by using dramatic contrasts in my images. I took these images in a recent trip to Yorkshire, I scouted different locations looking for any dramatic scenery I could come across, I spent a lot of time in this location and took my time in photographing each image, thinking about how I could turn the scene into a effective photograph. Using photo-shop I edited the photos to increase the contrast for dramatic effect. Overall I am happy with the way these photographs have turned out. Landscapes are definitely something I would consider doing for my final piece. However I am currently still undecided about the topic I would like to chose for this environment unit.
