Exhibition- Individual Work, Exposure, Year 2

For the Emergence exhibition in Nucleus Arts, I will be displaying my story telling moving image piece. I will displaying my moving image piece on a monitor, alongside my zine that talks about my moving image work in detail. Both my Monitor and my zine will be placed on a white plinth, the monitor placed on top of the plinth and my zine placed on a shelf that has been drilled into the plinth.

My work is going to displayed on the far back wall of the room. In this part of the room I have access to plug sockets, so I am able to play my moving image piece without having wires all over the exhibit. It was important that everyone showing moving image pieces had access to plug sockets, otherwise the wires would become a health and safety hazard. I had a total of 47 inches to exhibit my final piece. This ended up being plenty of room as my piece is not connected to the wall.

I am happy with the placement and amount of space I received in the exhibition. The exhibition design team have done a good job in placing everyone in the exhibition, they have ensured that everyone has an equal amount of space, and they have catered to everyone’s exhibition needs.

Ideal Way to Exhibit

Exhibition- Individual Work, Exposure, Year 2

For the Exposure unit I am planning on exhibiting my storytelling final piece. The piece is a short documentary about professional dressage rider Chelsea Tolhurst. In an ideal situation were space and money were not an option, I would like my moving image piece to be shown in a cinema style. The viewers would be directed into a separate room within the gallery. This room would have seating pointing towards a screen were the film would be projected. The room would be dark and have no other light source except from the projection on the screen. The moving image piece would play on a loop so that people were able to come to watch the piece at all times.

The space would have no more than twenty seats, I want the film to have an intimate and personal feel. I think that more than twenty people in the space at one time would be a distraction to the piece. On the way out of the exhibit there would be room containing a number of zines talking in more detail about the subject and myself the photographer. These zines would be free for the public to take. My artist statement would also be amongst the zines. Having this set up in a gallery would be an effective use of the space, it would showcase my work and allow views to really connect with the piece.

Exhibition Plan

Exhibition- Individual Work, Exposure, Year 2

I am planing to show my story telling piece for the medway photo festival. My work will be shown in the Nucleus Arts Gallery, the gallery is situated just off Chatham high street. Nucleus had a professional gallery space feel, so is a perfect place to display my work. The space will be divided up between 22 people. That gives each person roughly 54inches of wall space. My piece consists a moving image piece and an zine. I want to show this particular piece of work because its a reflection of all the work I’ve produced this academic year. I want to exhibit my work using a plinth, on top of the I plan to use a monitor  which will play my video on a loop during the exhibition. My final piece also includes a zine. I want to display the zine next to my moving image piece so people in the gallery are able to make a clear connection between the zine and the moving image work.

I want to present my zine along side the monitor so I am planning to buy a simple clear plastic shelf that will be attached to the plinth using screws or super glue. This clear shelf will be a good way to present both pieces of my work together. My exhibition set up is relatively simple to execute. The only element of gallery resources I would need to use is a plug socket, the rest can be provided by the  university.
